My name is Katie Vyktoriah. I am 31 years old (as I write this) and the owner/writer of this website. I’ve been blogging for over ten years across endless platforms, and I love sharing my thoughts on life, love, family and everything else online.
My adorable fiance, Mark, is to blame for the site name (among other things I like to blame him for), as he spent considerable time going through ideas for the perfect “brand” for me. Thanks to him, I am now also the proud owner of HerCooking.com and HerGeeky.com.
I have a small child who likes to run around the house like a tiny tornado. His name is Dexter, and he looks just like his daddy. This is a good thing. He has my eyes, though. And this is also a good thing.
I have a small baby who doesn’t do much yet, except for pooping and sleeping. His name is Daniel, and he looks just like me. At least that is what everyone says.
I like to write. I love to ramble. I share way too much information, and if you are lucky enough to meet me in real life, you’ll probably be perplexed by my “introverted extrovert” personality which can lead me to dance alone on a stage in a bar for everyone to see while shying away from cameras because I don’t like being the center of attention. I am a riddle wrapped in an enigma and drenched in a conundrum. Or something to that effect.
So, a little about this site? As I said, I didn’t choose the name, though I didn’t really put up much of a fight about it either. I asked Mark what it meant. He said, “It’s like… a girl… who doesn’t realise how beautiful she really is.” Which is one way of looking at it, I guess. I prefer to play with grammar and syntax and come up with eleventy seven other ways it can be construed. When I looked up definitions of pretty (just to familiarise myself with as many as possible in case someone accuses me of being vain), I saw that it can also mean clever. So that’s where I’m at right now.
This is getting to be a bit rambly, so I should probably finish telling you about myself so you can get back to the rest of your life.
I am American, but I moved to the UK in 2001 to marry an Englishman. It didn’t work out, but in 2010, as we began divorce proceedings, I met the true love of my life. He is a fellow American who also came to the UK for love that didn’t work out. In each other, we found true happiness, which was made even grander when we found out we were pregnant only three months into our relationship.
We now are proud parents and plan to one day get married if we can be bothered to organise it. Until then, we are happily paddling along in the great big puddle of life.
In May 2012, we embarked on a return to our country of origin, migrating to the great state of Florida. I’m over the bloody moon!
Oh yes, that is something else I should mention – I lived in England for over a decade (which is ALL of my adult life), so I tend to use a lot of English slang. I’m not being pretentious. It’s just all I know!
So… anyway… that’s the long and the short of it.
About Us
This is me. I’m a 31 year-old full time mother to two beautiful sons. I love all things crafty, anything to do with food & cooking, reading and having fun. I am also a VERY enthusiastic photographer, though my equipment often lets me down. I love being thrifty, and I try to keep our family on a budget and give us a good quality life for less money. I am passionate about learning to do more for less!
Dex is my toddler son. He was born in February 2011, which makes him currently 2 years old. He is incredibly daring, full of energy and loves durable toys, bikes and playing outdoors. He is quite the smart cookie, a trait we try to enhance by giving him as many educational toys / videos / CDs as we can find!
He is currently going through his “Terrible 2s” and is klutzy in the extreme. He is just starting to show an interest in books and crafts, and we love to encourage this new trait.

Dan is our new addition, born in February 2013. He came a bit earlier than we’d anticipated, but he was an amazing surprise and continues to fill us with joy. As he is still so very young, we don’t know much about him yet, but his favorite thing is being carried in his Moby wrap. He loves skin to skin contact, and he’s a big fan of bathing.
Mark is my fiance and our boys’ father. He is a software developer who works from home. He loves anything to do with tech and ALWAYS feels the need to have the latest gadgets, games and programs. He is also a huge fitness fanatic and loves the outdoors, especially anything that gets his adrenaline going.
PS – Just in case you didn’t learn enough useless trivia about me, I’ve managed to compile a list of 102 things you might (or might not!) find interesting about me.
