So my friend Amy suggested that we all have lunch on Sunday, as it was to be my mom’s last weekend here. Originally, we’d wanted another outdoor experience like the lovely BBQ we’d done last weekend, but the weather was meant to be quite cold. So since Amy is a Disney cast member, I suggested she get us all in to one of the parks and we’d have lunch at one of the restaurants there.
As it was our first big outing as a family, I’d taken the effort to wear contacts, do my hair and actually wear makeup for the first time in 9 months! I was quite gratified by the response from everyone. Apparently, I need to do this more often, as my everyday look is quite lacking. Also, I am told I look much younger when I make an effort:
We headed to the park, where we took the opportunity to grab a few photos in front of the iconic “giant golf ball” which I now know is ACTUALLY called Spaceship Earth. Also – Dexter was wearing his new Batman hoodie that grandma bought him for his birthday, so he had people randomly taking pictures of HIM! Tourists are strange.
Of course, as soon as we got through the gates, baby Daniel decided to start screaming dramatically. Hungry babies are hard work at a busy theme park… especially on a cold day! The weather was beautiful, but the temperature was in the low 50s, which meant that to feed my hungry kid, I’d have to find a spot indoors. We wound up heading to the information centre where I could sit on a bench and Dexter could play with the Mickey Mouse stickers one of the kindly employees bestowed upon him.

Ahem. After we fed and changed the baby, we decided to head straight to the restaurant, as my blood sugar was playing up and we thought maybe we could get in a little earlier than our booking. Along the way, we admired some of the fun displays and topiaries. As the park is gearing up for the Flower Festival, there are some pretty gorgeous things to see. Some favorite photos from the day:
As we have a couple of picky eaters among us (cough, ahem, mom, cough) we decided to try Mexican cuisine at the San Angel Inn.
Mom loves Mexican, and Mark and I are always up for it, as well. It’s quite pricey for an everyday restaurant, but as an “experience” it’s not too expensive. Most of the entrees are between $18 – 30, though the options on the lunch menu are quite limited. In fact, mom ended up ordering off the children’s menu (a small meal which was still $10!).
To hold us over, we also ordered some tortilla chips and guacamole. We were brought two HUGE baskets of chips, which no matter how many we ate never seemed to go down! I was filled to the brim on the taste guac before the main course even arrived. So it was a good thing that Mark and I had decided to share a dish because I had no room for it!
Instead, I spent my time holding a fiddly Dexter in my lap. He was having great fun trying to stab me with my own dinner fork, but luckily he passed out before managing to do so.
Beyond the restaurant, the Mexican section of Epcot features loads of fun photo opportunities. This section had loads of Mayan relics and a whole bazarre atmosphere. I had to stop myself from buying a poncho or a sombrero, and I reminded myself that I’d been to the REAL Mayan ruins only a year ago.
Still, the photo opps were too good to pass up:
During lunch, Amy had mentioned that there was an amazing Pumpkin Spice Funnel Cake on offer somewhere in the park. And given that I am a funnel cake WHORE and that pumpkin spice ANYTHING gets me excited, I insisted that she lead us to it! So we meandered through the park, taking photos wherever our heart’s desired.
When we finally got to the funnel cake stand (by way of another stop at the toilets (for daddy), a fun oversized model train village (for Dexter) and a cold and windy bench (for me to feed Daniel)), I was salivating. The line was long, but that didn’t deter me. Especially when I forced Mark to stand in line and order for me while I went to put on my Moby wrap so that I could wear Dan and keep him (and myself!) warmer.
The wait was totally worth it, and we all tore that sucker apart like we hadn’t eaten in MONTHS.
