So there I was, minding my own business, checking out my Facebook timeline, which I often do just to figure out whether I need to update more or less. And as I scrolled through my happy profile, I noticed it – my email address… Or NOT my email address…
My regular email address, which I added to my account so long ago had been hijacked, and in its place was an imposter FACEBOOK email address. Yes, suddenly the information I wanted people to have was removed. I considered for a moment… is this really such a bad thing? Actually, YES!
Because anyone who uses that address will not be sending an email to ME for MY eyes only… The email will go to my FACEBOOK INBOX instead. Which means, unless I regularly check it, I might miss something important. This is especially true for the companies who have found me through Facebook. With this address, I might miss timely information, which is unacceptable.
Check your own profile. Go on. Right now. Yours will have changed, too!
But luckily there is a solution, and it’s actually really simple.

Next to your Contact Info box, simply click on the Edit button. This will bring up a pop-up screen which allows you to change information.

Notice that your old email is still there, but it has been demoted in favor of the facebook email address. Simply click on the second button next to the address and choose the ones you want to be visible. Hide the ones you don’t.
Of course, if you want to use your FB address, more power to you! There’s nothing wrong with it. But it should be YOUR choice.

In this example, I have chosen to hide my FB email address and show my old address.
Next, simply click Save at the bottom of this pop-up.

Once you click Save, you will see your profile again, and this time the address should be correct.

Ta da!
As I said, it’s a fairly simple procedure, but it takes 60 seconds out of my day that I’ll never get back. And Facebook should not have that power!
So get checking your profile and make sure your information is correct.

Thank you for the tip, it is a bit scary indeed!
Glad I could help! :)
I hardly ever check things like that. So I had a look and my email address had been changed :( All sorted now though, so thanks for sharing this.

Glad I could help. :)
I hate your comment box(form), I wrote a very long comment, I clicked “post comment”, then an error message appeared saying my email was not valid.
I can’t fucking believe I lost 10 minutes of my life.
Yet another reason why I hate blogs.
